Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Palestinian rejection of the Bahrain economic workshop

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, May 21, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian rejection of the proposed US-sponsored economic workshop in Bahrain later in June was highlighted in today’s al-Ayyam daily but with less emphasis in al-Quds and totally ignored in al-Hayat al-Jadida.

Al-Quds highlighted Israeli measures in the occupied territories, specifically reinforcing the Israeli towns bordering Gaza with sand barriers and the continuing closure of the entrance to the town of Tuqu in the south of the West Bank as a collective punishment measure against the entire town.

It said the anti-settlement committee was able to regain control of 300 dunums of Palestinian land in the northern West Bank village of Bidya after an Israeli company has forged documents in order to take it over.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the official state visit of President Mahmoud Abbas to Qatar which started yesterday and is supposed to continue for three days.

The paper also highlighted the cabinet meeting and its program.

It also quoted Saeb Erekat, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, calling on Germany to hold the occupation accountable and to be fair to the victims.

Al-Ayyam reported as well on the cabinet meeting and its program, but said in other news that Hamas and Israel have denied reaching a calm agreement for six months.

It said Jordan provided the Palestinian national security forces in Nablus with armored vehicles.

It also said Israel has indicted two Palestinians who used to be members of the defunct Fatah’s Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade. The two are Zakaria Zubeidi and attorney Tareq Barghouth.
