RAMALLAH, Sunday, May 05, 2019 (WAFA) – The latest Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which so far claimed the lives of 10 Palestinians, made headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that five Palestinians, including a 14-month-old toddler and her pregnant mother, were killed and many others were injured during Israeli airstrikes on several areas in Gaza, which left many residential buildings destroyed.
The dailies reported several reactions to the escalation in Gaza.
The government condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli aggression on the Strip, and called on the UN to shoulder its responsibilities and intervene immediately to stop it and provide protection for the Palestinians.
United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nickolay Mladenov called on Israel and the Palestinian resistance factions to stop the escalation and return to the understands of the past few months.
Arab League called on the UN and international human rights committees to provide protection for the Palestinians and to compel Israel to stop its aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The papers said that President Mahmoud Abbas strongly condemned in a press statement the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, saying “the silence towards Israel‘s crimes and violations of international law encourages it to continue committing more crimes against our Palestinian people.”
The dailies said President Abbas reaffirmed the rejection of the US so-called “deal of the century”, in response to a statement by US President Donald Trumps’ advisor Jared Kushner in which he said that the deal will not include the long-awaited two-state solution.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh met late Friday with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of his participation in the opening of the Chamlija Mosque in Istanbul, the largest mosque in Turkey, and handed him a letter from President Mahmoud Abbas on the challenges facing the Palestinian issue and the leadership’s efforts to overcome them.
