JERUSALEM, Saturday, May 04, 2019 (WAFA) – A Palestinian resident of Jerusalem whose house was demolished last week by the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem for construction without permit and was held in custody for one week was released from prison today and placed under house arrest, according to Wadi Hilweh Information Center.
Anas Burqan, from Silwan neighborhood, was arrested after protesting his house demolition.
He was released on a $300 bail and banished from his neighborhood while placed under house arrest until Monday, it said. It was not immediately known where he will spend the house arrest since his house was demolished.
The United Nations called yesterday for an immediate halt for Israel destruction of Palestinian-owned property in East Jerusalem.
It said 111 Palestinian-owned structures were destroyed in East Jerusalem so far in 2019, either directly by the Israeli authorities or self-demolished by their owners to avoid hefty fines, following the issuance of demolition orders for lack of building permits.
