JERUSALEM, Thursday, May 02, 2019 (WAFA) – The Mufti of Jerusalem and the Holy Land Sheikh Mohammad Hussein called on people to look on Sunday evening for the birth of the new moon ushering in the start of the Muslim fast month of Ramadan.
He called on anyone who sees the new moon to report it to the Waqf department in Jerusalem so that it can announce the start of Ramadan, which means the first day of the fast will be on Monday.
If the new moon is not seen on Sunday evening, then the first day of Ramadan will be immediately set to start on Tuesday.
Traditionally, the call is made out to the public throughout the Muslim world to report seeing the birth of the new moon to officially announce the start of Ramadan, but often most of the countries follow the lead of Saudi Arabia when it announces the start of the month-long dawn to sunset fast.
