RAMALLAH, Wednesday, May 01, 2019 (WAFA) – Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh’s remarks to donor countries during the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee’s meeting in Brussels dominated the front page headlines in Wednesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds reported that Shtayyeh urged the donor countries to take action to deter the Israeli occupation.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that the United States and Israel were waging a financial war against the Palestinian Authority to force it to surrender and sign on what does not meet the minimum of Palestinian rights.
He was also reported saying that there was a consensus among donor countries on providing ongoing support to Palestine and condemning the Israeli piracy.
On the other hand, al-Quds opted to report that Israeli occupation authorities demolished two Palestinian homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan, a theme that was also covered in the other two dailies.
Al-Quds added that Israeli occupation forces stormed several institutions in the East Jerusalem refugee camp of Shufat. According to al-Ayyam, Israeli police delivered demolition orders for two UNRWA-run institutions in the camp.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that a Palestinian was forced to demolish his own house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Ras al-Amud to avoid Israeli fines.
Moreover, al-Quds said that the European Union (EU) mobilized additional €22 million in aid to Palestinians.
Spotlighting her speech at the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee’s meeting in Brussels, al-Quds reported the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini saying that the EU “upholds to the perspective of the two-state solution.”
She was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stressing: “Economic and fiscal agreements between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, including the Paris Protocol, must be implemented in full.”
Furthermore, al-Quds said that Palestinians kick-started events marking the International Workers’ Day at al-Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds said that Israel reduced the offshore fishing it imposes for vessels operating out of the besieged Gaza Strip purportedly after a rocket was launched from Gaza.
It also reported the Islamic Jihad Movement denying that it launched a rocket from the besieged coastal enclave on southern Israel.
Additionally, al-Quds reported US envoy Jason Greenblatt calling on President Mahmoud Abbas to visit Gaza.
It also said that the UK announced £9 million aid in support of the central desalination plant in Gaza.
Secretary-General of Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rajoub was reported in al-Ayyam stressing the need to implement the Palestinian Central Council and National Council’s decisions on reconsidering the relation with Israel.
Al-Ayyam said that family of Zaki Mubarak, a Palestinian who was founded dead in a Turkish prison after being accused of spying for the United Arab Emirates, demanded an international investigation.
According to al-Ayyam and al-Quds, Israel fumes over a French diplomat’s comments describing it as an apartheid state.
It said that Jordanian King Abdullah II has ordered revision of gas deal with Israel.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated head of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party Pedro Sánchez on his victory in the general elections.
It said that Russia has expressed support to dispatching a United Nations mission to solve the ‘Israeli-Palestinian conflict’.
It reported the Palestinian Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ministry condemning the attempted coup d’état against the Venezuelan constitution and legitimate leadership.
