President Abbas delivers letter to his Russian counterpart

 

RAMALLAH, Monday, April 29, 2019 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas delivered today a letter to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, according to Fatah official Azzam al-Ahmad.

Ahmad, who is member of Fatah Central Committee and the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), met with  the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, at the Russian Foreign Ministry headquarters in Moscow, and gave the letter from Abbas to Putin.

In his letter to his Russian counterpart, President Abbas talked about the Israeli measures and policies, the US biased position in favor of the Israeli right-wing government, potential repercussions that could affect the region, and the Palestinian position towards the overall developments, particularly the US so-called ‘Deal of the Century’, and efforts exerted by the Palestinian side to face the potential risks and challenges.

Abbas affirmed the historical depth of the friendly relations between both countries and the Russian position in support of the just Palestinian cause and the legitimate Palestinian rights.

For his part, Bogdanov affirmed Russia’s supportive position toward President Mahmoud Abbas’ approach and the Palestinian leadership’s positions toward the peace process and the national reconciliation based on the Palestine Liberation Organization‘s agenda.

Bogdanov stressed the importance of promoting the bilateral relations between both countries, continuing the political coordination, especially at international forums, and finding a settlement for the Palestinian issue in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.
