RAMALLAH, Monday, April 29, 2019 (WAFA) – Remarks in which Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said the Palestinian leadership will not accept continuation of the status quo and that relationship with Israel is going through a revision were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
These remarks were made during a meeting Shtayyeh had yesterday at his Ramallah office with Norwegian envoy Tor Wennesland, two days before a scheduled donors meeting in Brussels chaired by Norway.
In other news, al-Ayyam said the Palestinian Authority (PA) refused to accept $180 million in clearance money Israel had transferred to the PA last month, insisting on either receiving the full amount of approximately $200 million or nothing at all. Israel has been deducting money from the clearance equal to the amount the PA pays families of Palestinian prisoners and those killed by Israel.
Al-Quds said Palestinian head of the Civil Affairs Hussein al-Sheikh met with Israeli Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon to discuss the withheld Palestinian clearance money.
Al-Ayyam also said in another story that the Palestinian factions in Gaza are hoping Fatah would join an upcoming meeting called for by Hamas intended to discuss ways to confront the American so-called deal of the century.
It quoted Fatah official, Jibril Rjoub, saying Hamas should offer practical program and not emotional speeches.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Rjoub, who is also head of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, calling on Arab and Islamic states to stop all kinds of normalization in sports relations with Israel as long as the latter does not recognize the right of Palestinians for freedom in sports and movement.
It said three Palestinian residents of the Ramallah-area village of Ras Karkar were injured when attacked by Israeli settlers.
It also quoted Minister of Health May Kayleh saying Jordan and Egypt will form alternate locations to Israeli hospital for medical referrals for Palestinian patients.
A Texas court, said al-Hayat al-Jadida, opened the door for appealing state laws punishing boycotters of Israel.
Al-Ayyam said Israel arrested a group of people claimed to be Hamas for allegedly plotting attacks in Israel during elections held three weeks ago.
It also reported on the murder of a child in Rafah and the arrest of the murderer.
It said Israel released two Syrians in return for the delivery of the remains of an Israeli soldier to Israel.
Al-Quds said Israel seized hundreds of dunums of Palestinian land in the south of the West Bank to open a new road for settlers.
