RAMALLAH, Tuesday, April 23, 2019 (WAFA) – Measures by the Israeli authorities, settlers and Jewish fanatics that affect the daily life of Palestinians in the occupied territories were the focus of today’s three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Those measures included razing dozens of dunums of land in Salfit in the north of the West Bank by settlers as a prelude for taking over the land, closure of the Ibrahimi mosque in Hebron for Muslim worshippers while keeping it open for Jews, and sharp rise in provocative tours by Jewish fanatics of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem while holding religious rituals in violation of standing rules that say only Muslims can hold prayers within the boundaries of the holy compound.
The dailies also reported on the outcome of the second meeting of the Palestinian government in Ramallah with each of the daily leading with a different headline.
Al-Quds said the cabinet called on foreign countries to withdraw citizenship from its citizens who live the illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayeh saying the government is ready to implement the decisions of the National and Central councils related to redefining relationship with Israel.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the cabinet announced that it has started to look into Arab and other countries as alternatives to Israeli hospitals for Palestinian medical referrals.
The same paper also printed a story saying the Emir of Kuwait has reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the Palestinian people and Jerusalem in particular.
Al-Ayyam also said in another story that an Israeli court ruled in favor of Palestinian owners of a house in Hebron taken over the Jewish settlers after 14 years of litigation.
It said Israel rejected a French call to release the Palestinian clearance money.
It said the cabinet declared that Easter Sunday according to the Eastern calendar is a national holiday.
It also said Israel intends to keep Al-Karama (Allenby/King Hussein) crossing with Jordan open for 24 hours a day, six days a week starting June and for three months.
Al-Quds said Omar Younis was another victim of Israeli extrajudicial executions as military checkpoints.
It said that following intervention by the Palestinian Civil Affairs authority, Israel has decided to issue 300 permits for Gaza Christians to reach Jerusalem and the West Bank during Easter holiday and 200 more to go to Jordan, while it previously has not issued any permits to reach Jerusalem.
