RAMALLAH, Monday, April 22, 2019 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) and the Medical Association Monday signed an agreement to exempt the families of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails from paying doctors’ fees in private clinics registered with the association.

Head of PPS, Qaddoura Fares, said during the agreement signing ceremony in Ramallah that the new agreement, which includes first-degree relatives of prisoners held in Israeli jails, comes as an attempt to relieve many burdens on the families of prisoners, specifically ones living in villages and refugee camps. The agreement does not include families of freed prisoners.

He said PPS will issue special cards in the next two days and will distribute them to prisoners’ families in all governorates.

He stressed that this initiative is a start to open the way for other initiatives that other syndicates can also contribute to as means to express practical support for prisoners.

For his part, Shawqi Sabha, Head of Medical Association, said this agreement is the least that could be done for prisoners incarcerated in Israeli jails.
