RAMALLAH, Monday, April 22, 2019 (WAFA) – The Arab League foreign ministers’ position on the so-called deal of the century together with President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks during the meeting dominated the front page headlines in today’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The dailies reported that the Arab foreign ministers affirmed their commitment to activate the financial safety net of $100 million monthly in support of the State of Palestine’s budget.
They also reported the Arab foreign ministers stating that their states would not accept any deal related to the Palestinian question that neither conforms to international references nor guarantees the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.
Additionally, the dailies spotlighted President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech before the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo.
Abbas was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that he would convene the Palestinian Central Council to implement its decisions on determining the relationship with Israel.
He was also reported in al-Ayyam calling on the Arab states to “accept what we accept and reject what we reject. Nothing more, nothing less.”
He was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida that the Palestinian people will face formidable challenges that require political and financial support.
He was also reported saying that the newly-elected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “does not believe in peace” and that Israel has breached all its deals (agreements) with the Palestinians.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Abbas held a summit meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
Furthermore, al-Quds said that 225 settlers and head of Israeli police forced their way into Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds said that Israeli occupation authorities stepped up their attacks against Palestinians in the old town of Hebron as Israeli forces sealed off the entrances of Sebastia village, north of Nablus.
Spokesman for the European Union Shadi Othman was reported in al-Quds affirming that the EU rejects any unilateral actions undertaken by Israel.
He was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that the EU would take a stance on the US-touted Mideast plan, dubbed deal of the century, if it violates the principles of United Nations resolutions.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida also covered the celebration of Easter by western churches and celebration of Palm Sunday by the Orthodox and Eastern churches in Jerusalem.
Also regarding Jerusalem, al-Ayyam said that Israeli police shut down an event for Palestini0in businessmen planned at hotel in Jerusalem.
The dailies said that Abbas condemned the terrorist bombing attacks that targeted three churches and two luxury hotels in Sri Lanka earlier today.
