RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 21, 2019 (WAFA) – News about President Mahmoud Abbas’ official visit to Egypt, during which he is expected to meet with his Egyptian counterpart Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi, made headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that President Abbas arrived in Cairo on Saturday and was received at Cairo International Airport by Egyptian Minister of Manpower Mohamed Saffan and Palestine’s Ambassador to Egypt Diab Al-Louh, and staff from Palestinian Embassy in Cairo.
President Abbas is expected to meet with his Egyptian counterpart Sisi to discuss the latest development in the region, the dailies said.
The dailies also said that Israeli soldiers on Saturday opened fire and injured a Palestinian youth at Za’atara checkpoint south of the city of Nablus in the West Bank after he allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack against the soldiers.
The three papers reported that Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s senior advisor, revealed in a leaked confidential email his intention to disrupt United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) because it’s “corrupt and doesn’t help peace.”
Al-Ayyam said Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Riyad Al-Malki, called on Saturday upon the Arab countries to provide the Palestinian government with a financial safety net to help it cope with the financial crisis resulting from Israel’s withholding of the Palestinian tax revenues.
Al-Quds said that Christians today celebrate Easter and Palm Sunday.
