RAMALLAH, Saturday, April 20, 2019 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas is going to talk to his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the Arab foreign ministers about the options the leadership intends to take regarding implementation of the decisions of the Palestinian National Council to face the risks and challenges resulting from the Israeli occupation and the measures of the American administration, according to Abbas’ advisor for diplomatic affairs, Majdi Khalidi.
He told Voice of Palestine radio today that the president is going to “consult with the Arab foreign ministers on how to put an end to these challenges and activate the Arab financial safety net to support the Palestinian budget, especially in light of Israel‘s withholding of the clearance funds for about two months."
Khalidi pointed out that the Arab countries have always stood by the Palestinian people and supported their steadfastness as Palestine was able to get all the decisions it wanted, but what is required now is to implement these decisions in order to support the Palestinian position and cause in these difficult times.
President Abbas is expected to arrive in Cairo today where he will hold a meeting with al-Sisi to brief him on the latest developments in the Palestinian cause, particularly attempts to liquidate it through the American deal of the century and Israeli measures, said Khalidi.
The two leaders will also discuss the role Egypt can play because of its weight in the region, as well as because it is the current chair of African Union, which is expected to play an active role alongside the Arab states in overcoming the crises facing the Palestinian cause.
"The agenda of the president‘s visit to Cairo is based on the Palestinian request for a meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers to listen to the challenges facing the Palestinian issue," he said. "The president will give a speech at the meeting and speak directly to the foreign ministers, consult with them and listen to their views."
He added that the Palestinian leadership is determined to move towards the Arab states and a large number of other countries in the world to deal with the dangers facing the Palestinian issue, where there is ongoing discussion to come up with an action plan during the coming period starting from the meeting of Arab foreign ministers tomorrow, while delegations will be sent by the President to different countries carrying messages explaining the risks facing the Palestinian cause.
