Prime Minister calls on Arab countries to shore up financial assistance to Palestinian Authority

RAMALLAH, Monday, April 15, 2019 (WAFA) – Two days after members of his government were sworn in before President Mahmoud Abbas, Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh called on Arab countries shore up financial assistance to the cash-strapped Palestinian Authority.

Shtayyeh, who chaired the first session of the 18th Palestinian government in Ramallah, called on the Arab countries to meet their financial obligations by promptly providing the Palestinian Authority with a financial safety net to enable it to face its tight financial situation.

He pointed out that he has requested a meeting with the donor countries on April 30th to brief them on “the ongoing financial war" waged by Israel and the US against Palestinians.

He pledged to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people everywhere in facing Israeli settlement policies and stressed the need to provide Palestinians with popular protection to fend off settlers attacks.

He also pledged that the new government would implement the Palestinian National Council and Central Council’s decisions on determining the relationship with Israel.
