HEBRON, Sunday, April 14, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation forces on Sunday evacuated a school in the Old City neighborhood of Hebron, south of the West Bank, after a suspicious body was found at the entrance to the school.
School’s principal, Hussein Aamar, told WAFA that the students and staff were evacuated from the Ibrahimi Basic School shortly after the suspicious body was detected.
The area surrounding the school in the heart of Hebron‘s Old City is a frequent target for Israeli settlers‘ attacks, for which local sources estimated that the suspicious body might have been installed by settlers.
Some 800 hardcore settlers live in the Israeli-controlled section of Hebron, known as H2, among over 20,000 Palestinians.
Harassment of Palestinians in that area is a daily occurrence, particularly following the departure of the international monitoring team, the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH), earlier in February after Israel refused to extend the team‘s mandate.
