RAMALLAH, Friday, April 12, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoners who are going on an open-ended hunger strike in Israeli jails after the Israeli Prison Service failed to respond to their demands dominated the front page headlines in Friday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are going on a hunger strike for the fifth consecutive day.

Al-Ayyam said that 30 prisoners have stopped drinking water, which threatens their lives.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that a popular congress convened in the central West Bank city of al-Bireh recommends the need to support prisoners in their open-ended hunger strike.

On the other hand, al-Quds opted to spotlight the looming announcement of the US-touted Mideast plan, dubbed deal of the century, which has been a long time in the making and whose final announcement has been delayed repeatedly.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida issued an Arabic translation for Reuters’ report titled In leaky White House, Trump team keeps Middle East peace plan secret.

Additionally, al-Quds reported that US Secretary of State Mark Pompeo has refuse to disclose the US administration’s position on the two-state solution before the US Senate.

According to al-Ayyam, the new Palestinian government will swear the oath of office tomorrow.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam published a list of figures who will most likely assume the various ministerial portfolios.

It also reported that an Israeli committee has held a hearing on the appeals submitted by Palestinians of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan against against Israel’s plan to install and operate a cable car around Jerusalem’s Old City.

Moreover, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that several Palestinians suffocated from tear gas fired by Israeli forces who raided Sabastiya village in the northern West Bank district of Nablus.

The dailies said that Israeli Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel stormed East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound along with 84 settlers.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces injured dozens of Palestinians and rounded up 16 Palestinians during multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.

Furthermore, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli forces sealed off the entrance of the southern West Bank refugee camp of al-Arroub, north of Hebron.

It added that Israeli forces continued to close the entrance to Azzun town, east of the northern West Bank city of Qalqiliya for the fifteenth consecutive day.

Al-Quds said that Israel’s Council for Higher Education approved the establishment of a medical school at the illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel in the northern West Bank.

Al-Ayyam said that Egypt pulled out of the US-led initiative to forge an anti-Iran Arab NATO.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said that Palestine has gained full membership in the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Palestine assumed the chairmanship of the Nairobi branch of the Group of 77 plus China.

It pointed out that Mohammad Safi, 27, from Beit Lahiya town in the northern besieged Gaza Strip has lost his sight as a result of torture in Hamas interrogation centers.
