RAMALLAH, Sunday, April 07, 2019 (WAFA) – News about the approval by Israeli authorities of the construction of hundreds of housing units in the illegal settlement of Bitar Elit in the West Bank hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that the Israeli Higher Planning Committee approved on Saturday evening the construction of 770 new housing units in the illegal settlement of Bitar Elit, west of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he would annex the Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank if he wins the upcoming Israeli elections, noting that he will not remove "even one person" from a settlement as part of a future peace plan.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted that President Mahmoud Abbas discussed on Saturday the latest developments in Palestine with world officials on the sideline of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa, which opened on Saturday in the Dead Sea region in Jordan.
The dailies said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reaffirmed during the WEF meeting his support for the two-state solution as a basis to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The papers also said that King Abdullah of Jordan met with the Guterres and emphasized the importance of ending Israeli violations in Jerusalem.
