RAMALLAH, Sunday, March 31, 2019 (WAFA) – News about the fatal shooting of four Palestinians by Israeli forces during the Land Day protests at Gaza border hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that four Palestinians, including three minors, were killed and over 250 others injured on Saturday as thousands of Palestinians gathered at the east border of the Gaza Strip to mark the 43rd anniversary of Land Day and the first anniversary of the Great March of Return.
The three dailies also highlighted the President Mahmoud Abbas’ statement on the Land Day anniversary.
He said that Palestine will only be for the Palestinians and that the free and independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is inevitable and definitely going to happen.
“The suffering of our people over 100 years and the enormous sacrifices made by this great people will not go to waste,” he said.
In the statement, the President praised those who died on Land Day and all those who died for Palestine, as well as the wounded and the prisoners, stressing that no one is going to give up on demanding freedom of the prisoners.
The papers also reported that President Abbas arrived on Saturday evening in the Tunisian capital of Tunis ahead of the 30th meeting of the Arab Summit scheduled for Sunday.
Al-Ayyam said Arabs and Palestinians in Israel participated in various protests and marches to mark the anniversary of the Land Day.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Prime Minister-Designate Mohammad Shtayeh said on Saturday that the composition of his new government is ready and will be presented to President Abbas next week after he returns from the Arab summit in Tunis.
Israeli authorities decided to reopen several crossings with the Gaza Strip, mainly Karm Abu Salem and Beit Hanun crossings, according to al-Ayyam and al-Quds.
The dailies said Ahmed Aboul Gheit , Secretary-General of the Arab League, discussed with UN Secretary General António Guterres ways to support the Palestinian cause.
