Israeli soldiers assault blind man during raid of his West Bank home

 

BETHLEHEM, Wednesday, February 20, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli soldiers assaulted today an elderly blind Palestinian man during an early morning raid of his home in al-Doha town, near the biblical city of Bethlehem in the south of the occupied West Bank.

Munther Mezher told WAFA that Israeli soldiers violently stormed his house and severely beat him up on the head and shoulders although he is blind, a kidney patient and cannot walk without help.

He said speaking from his hospital bed in Bethlehem where he was taken after the assault that he was asleep when he noticed people who did not identify themselves over his bed and started to beat him on his face and body.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” he said. “They started to beat me on my head. I thought they were thieves or something.”

After assaulting him, the soldiers identified themselves as members the Israeli army and then took him and his wife to the living room, where they had also kept his children.

Mezher said that after they have trashed his house and left it, he realized that the soldiers were after a neighbor’s son on the floor above him, who was detained by the army.
