RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 15, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli navy killing of a Palestinian fisherman who was seeking to earn a living from fishing in the northern Gaza shore was highlighted on the front page of the Thursday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The papers also highlighted the marking of the 30th anniversary of the Palestinian Declaration of Independence, which coincides on Thursday, and the events that accompanied it.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Khan al-Ahmar hosted a central festival on this occasion.
Al-Ayyam reported on the aftermath of the Israeli aggression against Gaza and the political implications, particularly the resignation of Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, which it made as its main front page story.
Al-Quds reported on this as well and said Lieberman resigned in protest against the ceasefire and bringing money into Gaza.
It printed an op-ed piece by US envoy Jason Greenblatt on peace in the Middle East.
It reported on an Israeli plan to build a hotel on occupied land in East Jerusalem’s Sawahreh and Sor Baher neighborhoods.
It said the Palestinian foreign ministry denounced a visit by the Czech Republic’s foreign minister to Al-Buraq plaza, also known as the Western Wall, and the Old City of Jerusalem, which is occupied territory, in the company of an Israeli government official.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Saeb Erekat, member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), called on Czech not to legalize an illegal annexation of Jerusalem and to abide by international law on this matter.
It said Kuwait has contributed $50 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Al-Ayyam said Washington defeated an effort in the UN Security Council to issue a statement on the latest Israeli aggression on Gaza.
It said an Egyptian security team is going to arrive in Gaza on Thursday to consolidate the ceasefire with Israel.
