JERUSALEM, Wednesday, November 07, 2018 (WAFA) – The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Palestine Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Wednesday urged Palestinians to converge in large numbers on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam which is located in Jerusalem, to celebrate the birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, which coincides this year on Tuesday, November 20.

He said the presence of large numbers of Muslims in the Mosque is important “in light of the threats against it by the (Israeli) occupation authorities.”

The Mufti was referring to the rise in the Israeli government condoned and encouraged provocative visits by extremist Jews to the Mosque who want to eventually turn it into a Jewish worship site, a step that could provoke serious religious strife, and Israeli police recommending to increase visits by Israeli lawmakers, mainly members of extremist right wing parties, to the Muslim holy site.
