Newspapers Review: Raid into the office of Jerusalem Governorate focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Monday, November 05, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli forces raid of the headquarters of Jerusalem Governorate and Ministry of Jerusalem Affairs in the town of al-Ram, north of Jerusalem, dominated the front page headlines in the Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.

The dailies reported that Israeli occupation forces seized documents and computers from the offices and assaulted employees, injuring five, according to al-Ayyam daily.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida printed a photo for Jerusalem Governor Adnan Ghaith and Minister of Jerusalem Affairs Adnan Husseini inspecting the damage caused to the office.

The two papers also said a Palestinian young man died of wounds sustained from Israeli gunfire after he purportedly attempted to cross Gaza border with Israel on Saturday evening.

Al-Quds said that Jewish fanatics proceeded with their intrusions into East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and settlers provoked Palestinians in the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

Highlighting the Israeli cabinet’s session on the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip, al-Quds reported disagreements among the ministers on the emerging Egyptian-brokered calm agreement.

It and al-Ayyam added that the cabinet agreed to continue the efforts aimed at restoring calm in Gaza.

The dailies highlighted the traffic accident between a truck and a passenger shuttle near Fasayel village on Highway 90 in the Jordan Valley in which six Palestinians workers from East Jerusalem were killed and three others were seriously injured.

According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, heads of Catholic churches in Jerusalem called on Israel to repeal the Jewish Nation-State Basic Law, which enshrines Jewish supremacy in Israel.

The dailies said that Israel has officially asked Jordan to discuss the issue of al-Baqura and al-Ghamr, Jordanian territories that were leased to Israel for 25 years upon signing the 1994 peace treaty.

Al-Quds said Israelis blocked a road to Karm Abu Salem/Kerem Shalom crossing, Gaza’s commercial crossing with Israel, in an attempt to prevent goods from entering the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to al-Ayyam, Israeli forces ordered a halt on the construction of a house in Beit Ummar town, in the south of the West Bank.

They also reportedly delivered stop-construction orders to four Palestinian-owned greenhouses in the southern West Bank town of  al-Khader.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Palestinian Olympic Committee (POC) expressed deep regret over some Arab capital’s decision to normalize relations with Israeli occupation authorities in sports.

It added that head of the POC Jibril Rajoub sent letters to international sports organizations urging them to put an end to Israel’s aggressive behavior against Palestinian sports.
