Newspaper Review: Abbas-Sisi meeting focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, Sunday, November 04, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and his Egyptian counterpart, Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi, on Saturday made headlines of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Ayyam and al-Quds said President Abbas met el-Sisi on the sideline of the Second World Youth Forum in Sharm el-Sheikh, where they discussed the latest developments in the Middle East and in Palestine, particularly in light of the dangers facing the Palestinian cause.

On a different subject, the dailies said Israeli forces set up checkpoints on all entrances to the northern West Bank city of Tulkarm and prevented its residents from leaving it. This came as the army intensified its presence in the city under the pretext of pursuing Ashraf Na’alweh, 23, the main suspect in killing two Israeli settlers in the illegal Israel settlement of Barkan on October 7.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that a Palestinian child from Gaza was declared dead on Saturday after being on life support for four years due to the critical injuries he sustained during Israel’s 2014 devastating war on Gaza.

The papers said that Israeli settlers intensified their raids on al-Ibrahimi mosque as well as other citizens’ properties in the city of Hebron.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said that the government denied postponing putting the new social security law into action.
