RAMALLAH, Thursday, November 1, 2018 (WAFA) – Two of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies - al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds - highlighted on the top of their front page the meeting on Wednesday between President Mahmoud Abbas and Omani Foreign Minister Yousef bin Alawi during which the Omani official delivered a letter to Abbas from Sultan Qaboos bin Said on the visit last week of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Oman.
The third paper, al-Ayyam reported on this but in a box on the top right corner of the page.
Al-Ayyam opted to highlight as its main front page story the night protests at the Gaza border with Israel and said several young people have survived an Israeli shelling east of Bureij.
It said Israel attempted to disavow its responsibility for the recent killing of three minors in Gaza by claiming that its forces did not know they were attacking children.
It also said the Israeli forces demolished rooms in Yatta, south of Hebron in the West Bank, as settlers went to a rampage in Hebron and broke into Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.
Al-Quds also highlighted on its front page reports about France getting more involved in the Middle East peace process, saying that French President Emmanuel Macron has sent an envoy to the Middle East for that purpose.
It reported on the municipal elections in the Israeli cities and towns and said that there was relief in the boycott of the elections in Jerusalem by the city’s Palestinian residents who do not recognize Israel’s sovereignty over their occupied city.
The paper said in a report from its Washington correspondent that State Department spokesman said they were aware of the decisions of the Palestinian Central Council and that the Palestinians have left room for going back on these decisions, which have to do with severing ties with Israel for refusing to implement the signed agreements.
Al-Quds also quoted UNRWA spokesman Sami Mshasha saying that the UN agency has started to cut down on expenditure while trying to solicit more funds to the agency.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida gave prominence to statements by Palestine Liberation Organization official Saeb Erekat saying Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump are destroying the two-state solution and replacing it with facts on the grounds.
It printed the report by the Ministry of Finance which said customs on imported cars did not change.
The papers also reported on the ongoing opposition by employees of the private sector to the new social security law.
