RAMALLAH, Monday, October 29, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli military court in Salem, north of the West Bank, Monday sentenced Palestinian hunger striking prisoner Khader Adnan to one year in jail, fined him 1000 Israeli shekels ($270) and 18 months suspended sentence for five years, said Jawad Boulous, head of the legal department in the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.
Boulous said the jail sentence starts from the day of his arrest on December 11, 2017.
Adnan, a father of seven children, has been on an open-ended hunger strike for 58 days, his third since 2012, in protest against his continued detention without charge or trial.
It was not immediate clear if Adnan has suspended his hunger strike following this sentence, which would set him free in a short time, but reports quoted his wife saying that he did.
His first hunger strike against his detention was in 2012 when his strike lasted for 66 days to protest his administrative detention, as well as in 2015, which lasted for 54 days. In both strikes he was able to shorten his detention and regain his freedom.
