RAMALLAH, Tuesday, October 23, 2018 (WAFA) – The Prime Minister‘s Office (PMO) strongly condemned the Israeli assault against the Palestinian fundamental right to education that is enshrined in international law.

Today, the Israeli Occupying forces (IOF) stormed Khirbet Ibiziq village, northeast of Tubas, and destroyed the two caravans used as the only school in this area, leaving 26 Palestinian students with no education facilities.

"This is another Israeli attack on our Bedouin communities; a shameful violation that threatens the education future of 26 Palestinian students," PMO Spokesperson, Ahmad Shami, stated.

Palestinian students‘ right to education is being obstructed by the Israeli systematic attacks against schools and universities while the nearby Israeli settlements are funded by Israel, the Occupying Power to be expanded at the expense of the basic elements of Palestinian lives, including rights to schooling, education and healthy childhood, said the spokesman in a statement.

 "The international community, United Nations agencies, and all international education institutions must immediately intervene to halt the Israeli violations and war crimes against the Palestinian students and their education upon Article No. 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states, "Everyone has the right to education," Shami Added.

According to the Fourth Geneva Convention, Israel as an occupying power must ensure that the Palestinian civilians are not denied their basic human rights, including their access to education, it said.

 Therefore, "we call upon the international community to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing crimes targeting the Palestinian communities; especially in the so-called "Area C" that is an integral part of the State of Palestine. We also demand an immediate protection to our defenseless citizens and call for enforcing the Palestinian Government rights to plan and develop the so-called "Area C", Sami concluded.
