Completion of Japan-funded project for expansion of sewage network in Gaza

 

RAMALLAH, Monday, October 15, 2018 (WAFA) - Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, Takeshi Okubo, visited al-Mughraqa Municipality in Gaza to celebrate the completion of a sewage network project funded by the government of Japan, Monday said a press statement issued by the representative office of Japan to Palestine.

The grant of $79,925 was extended to al-Mughraqa Municipality to expand the 1,275m of sewage network and to improve the life environment of the residents who were exposed to serious hazards of infection caused by the accumulated sewage water in al- Mughraqa in Gaza Strip.

 The most direct beneficiaries of the project are 300 residents (65 households).

In his speech, Okubo emphasized Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to approximately $1.86 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
