RAMALLAH, July 16, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli inner cabinet’s decision to continue the military campaign in Gaza and the targeting of those who fly incendiary kites was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Monday.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida made this subject their main front page story, while al-Quds printed it lower in the page.
Al-Quds meanwhile made the Helsinki summit between the United States and Russia that will be held on Monday as its main front page story. It said the Trump-Putin summit will be held among world concern with Trump saying that Russia, the European Union and China are enemies of the US.
France winning the World Cup after beating Croatia 4 to 2 was highlighted on the front page of al-Quds as well printing a picture of the tens of thousands of people gathering in Paris to watch and celebrate the victory.
The other two dallies also reported on this but lower on the front page, with al-Hayat al-Jadida saying that President Mahmoud Abbas attended the game in Moscow and he held meetings with world leaders on the sideline.
In other news, the papers reported on the UN Special Coordinator Nickolay Maldenov warning that Gaza is on the brink of war if things do not de-escalate.
The Israeli High Court’s decision setting free an Israeli settler who was involved in the murder of three members of the Dawabsheh family in the West Bank village of Duma three years ago was also highlighted on the front page of the dailies.
Al-Ayyam said, according to an Egyptian newspaper, that a new understanding with Hamas was reached regarding the Gaza employees, Hamas weapons and empowering the conciliation government.
Al-Quds said an Israeli parliamentary committee approved a bill that would deny the Palestinians the right to appeal to the Israeli High Court and said also that the committee approved as well a bill known as the Facebook law, which allows the government to pursue people who write on the social media and said that 679 Palestinians are already in detention in Israel over their writings on social media.
