Presidential advisor believes Chinese initiative could pave way to multilateral solution

RAMALLAH, July 9, 2018 (WAFA) – Presidential Advisor for International Affairs Nabil Shaath Monday expressed his belief that the Chinese Mideast peace initiative would likely pave the way to a multilateral solution to the Palestinian question.

Shaath said that the Chinese initiative would serve as a substitute for US President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace deal, dubbed deal of the century, which has virtually collapsed following Palestinian, Arab and international rejection.

“There will be a period of steadfastness and confrontation ahead pending the creation of the new multilateral framework which would ensure our right to bring the Israeli occupation to an end and establish the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he told the official Voice of Palestine radio.

Chinese Representative to the Palestinian Authority Guo Wei said on Sunday in an interview with WAFA that China would reintroduce its four-point initiative for sponsoring peace between Israel and Arab countries, noting that China had introduced its initiative before the so-called deal of the century.

He stressed that China adheres to the initiative, which is based on relevant UN resolutions, and has important components that would prove effective to achieving peace in the Middle East region.

The Chinese President Xi Jinping had proposed a four-point initiative which calls for achieving the two-state solution of Palestine and Israel on the basis of the borders of June 6, 1967 with East Jerusalem as the capital of the new Palestinian state, support the concept of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, which immediately ends the construction of Israeli settlements while taking immediate measures to prevent violence against civilians, calls for the early resumption of peace talks and coordination of international efforts to build a mechanism for reinforcing peace.
