Newspapers Review: President’s remarks during Fatah meeting focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, July 9, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks during a Fatah Central Committee’s meeting at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian local dailies on Monday.

Abbas was reported in the dailies stating: “We will not allow deal of the century to pass”, referring to US President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace deal.

He was also reported reiterating Palestinian rejection of the Israeli parliament’s decision to deduct the stipends of the families of Palestinian detainees and others killed and injured by Israeli forces from the tax revenues collected on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.

He was reported: “We will not allow anyone to interfere with the stipends of our martyrs and detainees.”

Fatah’s Central Committee was also reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam reiterating isr rejection of any "shady" political deal whether titled “deal of the century” or “Gaza deal”.

Furthermore, al-Quds said that Qatari ambassador Mohammad al-Emadi has disclosed the details of indirect contacts between Hamas and Israel.

The Qatari diplomat, who is reportedly working behind the scenes to ease tensions along Gaza’s eastern borders with Israel, disclosed these details during an interview an Israeli TV station on Sunday.

Referring to Israel Hayom’s report Arab officials: US peace plan to focus on Gaza first, circumvent PA, al-Quds said that Gaza would serve as a “fundamental pillar” to pass the so-called deal of the century and circumvent the legitimate Palestinian leadership.

Additionally, al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted the meeting between chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat and Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Amman.

Al-Quds said that the Palestinian Authority and Jordan warn of the consequences of the lack of genuine prospects to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, a Palestinian youth succumbed to wounds sustained after being shot by Israeli forces in 2009 in Fawwar refugee camp, southwest of Hebron.

They added that a Palestinian died in Gaza after suffering from a gunshot wound during celebrations of matriculation test results.

Israel’s ongoing preparations to demolish and forcibly displace the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar also hit the front page headlines.

The dailies reported in this regard that Israeli occupation authorities installed caravans in Wadi al-Jir area in Jerusalem-district town of Abu Dis.

According to al-Quds, Israeli police detained eight Palestinians from Jerusalem district and seized cash and vehicles during a raid into  Hizma,  northeast of Jerusalem.

The dailies reported that Israeli Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel and a lawmaker forced their way into East Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, where they pledged to rebuild the Jewish temple.

Moreover, al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah is slated to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Turkey’s President Tayyib Erdogan.

It reported the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry warning of an Israeli settlement construction plan targeting the Dead Sea shores.

It also reported Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councilor Wang Yi stating that China would reintroduce its Middle East peace initiative.
