PLO’s Ashrawi meets with visiting delegation from Cambridge University

RAMALLAH, June 28, 2018 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi Thursday met with a visiting delegation of undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Cambridge at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah.

Ashrawi provided the visiting delegation with a thorough assessment of the latest international and regional developments, as well as the US administration’s irresponsible and unlawful policies concerning occupied Jerusalem.

She also spoke of its dangerous moves to cut aid to UNRWA, while refusing to recognize the 1967 borders and the two-state solution.

Ashrawi said, “By actively deciding to be complicit with Israel’s military occupation and war crimes, the U.S. disqualified itself as an honest peace broker and became Israel’s partner in crime in this 21st century enslavement of the Palestinian people.”

In the context of Israel’s persistent violations of international law and international humanitarian law, in particular the expansion of its illegal settlement enterprise, the deliberate killing and injury of unarmed Palestinian protestors and the increase in home demolitions in and around occupied Jerusalem, Ashrawi urged a global engagement to undertake a serious and effective role in working to end the military occupation and to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

Ashrawi also briefed the students about the Palestinian leadership’s meeting with Prince William who visited Ramallah yesterday.

The meeting concluded with a candid question and answer session that focused on the implications of a one-state-solution versus a two-state-solution and the imperative of international accountability for Israel’s illegal behavior.
