RAMALLAH, June 19, 2018 (WAFA) – Killing two Palestinians by Israeli gunfire in Gaza and Israeli airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip were the focus of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday.
The dailies reported that Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man in the besieged coastal enclave and another Palestinian succumbed to his wounds he had sustained in one of the Great March of Return protests.
Israeli forces shot and killed Sabri Abu Khader, 24, to the east of Gaza city, while Zakariya Beshbash, 13, succumbed to his wounds he sustained two weeks earlier while participating in a protest, east of al-Bureij refugee camp.
The dailies added that Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes targeting multiple Hamas posts in the northern Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, al-Ayyam said that kites launched by Gaza protestors caused over 16 fires in Israeli farm lands and forests adjacent to Gaza.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added in this regard that Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has threatened to assassinate Palestinians launching kites, while al-Quds reported that the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres decried Lieberman’s statements on Gaza.
Palestinian government spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud was reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam stating that Israeli occupation authorities were using “flimsy, spurious pretexts” to justify an aggression on Gaza.
Highlighting the situation in East Jerusalem, the dailies said that Israeli police set up a watchtower atop the Golden Gate entrance to the flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Quds added that the so-called “Temple Mount Faithful” settler group celebrated the wedding of a settler couple at the flashpoint site, while al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that police briefly detained head of Waqf-appointed guards.
Al-Ayyam added that Israeli occupation authorities seized the residency card of head of Anti-Wall Committee in Jerusalem Hamdi Diyab and expelled him from Jerusalem.
According to al-Quds, President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed that the UN General Assembly’s resolution on providing protection for the Palestinian people would be implemented within two months.
The dailies highlighted media reports indicating that the US wants the Gulf countries to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Al-Ayyam said in this regard that the US seeks to use the UN as a cover to implement projects funded by Gulf countries in Gaza.
Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in the dailies slamming the efforts aimed to separate Gaza from the West Bank as illegal.
The dailies also reported that three major Palestinian churches in Jerusalem cry foul over the advancement of a draft bill aimed at seizing church property.
They also reported that Hamas security forces attacked Palestinians who participated in a rally headed by Prisoners Affairs Committee in Gaza city.
They said that Israel has blasted Prince William for listing his upcoming tour of the Old City of Jerusalem as part of his trip to the occupied Palestinian territories.
They said Israeli police prevented a celebration of the Russian National Day in one of East Jerusalem’s hotels.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the Red Cross saying that Israeli use of live fire in Gaza was causing “unprecedented crisis”.
Regionally, the dailies spotlighted media reports saying that Israel has arrested former energy minister Gonen Segev for working as an Iranian agent.
The dailies highlighted the statements made by Jordan’s monarch Abdullah II during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister in Amman.
According to al-Ayyam, Abdullah and Netanyahu discussed the issue of Jerusalem and “efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israel conflict.”
Abdullah was also reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that the issue of Jerusalem must be settled within the final status issues on the basis of the two-state solution.
