RAMALLAH, June 13, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities’ order to seize 24 dunums (six acres) of Palestinian farmland in the town of Beita, south of Nablus in the north of the West Bank, hit the front page headlines in Palestinian daily newspapers on Wednesday.
The dailies reported that Israelis set up mobile homes near the seized land.
The dailies added that Israeli military ordered a Palestinian farmer to evacuate his 25-dunum (six acre) land, which he has planted with palm and olive trees, before proceeding to raze it.
According to al-Quds, Israeli forces detained five Palestinians during raids across the West Bank districts of Hebron, Nablus and Jenin.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian vehicles, north of al-Bireh city.
Al-Ayyam also reported that Israeli forces broke into and turned a Palestinian home into a military outpost in Hebron’s Old City.
They said that the French city of Bezons renamed a street “Nakba” before it reversed its decision.
They also reported that the mayor of Johannesburg suspended a city councilor over pro-Israel remarks.
On the other hand, al-Quds quoted a well-informed western media source saying that Israel and the US were working to drive a wedge between Palestinians and the Gulf states.
Al-Quds also reported that Israeli police evicted settlers from 15 units in the so-called Netiv Haavot outpost, south of Bethlehem as a prelude to demolish it because it was built on private Palestinian land and compensate them with $16.7 million.
Al-Quds reported member of the PLO Executive Committee Ahmad Abu Holi, who holds the position of the Chairman of the PLO’s Refugees Affairs Department, stating that Palestinians would not be compelled to accept the so-called “deal of the century” or relinquish the right of return as a result of US financial blackmailing.
It also reported senior Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzouq stating that ongoing sanctions on Gaza might start a transitional period from intra-Palestinian division to disengagement between Gaza and the West Bank.
He was also reported stating: “We support Iran, but we do not see eye to eye on other issues.”
Additionally, the Palestinian cabinet was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida calling for “attention not to be diverted from the party who bears real responsibility for the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza”, implicitly blaming Israel and Hamas.
The cabinet was also reported in al-Ayyam stating that the cuts in the salaries of Gaza civil servants were “temporary” and claiming that a total of 300 million shekels (approximately $84 million) were spent on Gaza on a monthly basis.
Moreover, al-Quds published a translation for Xinhua’s news analysis titled Experts say chances to reach long-term truce between Hamas, Israel very ed.
It also said that the new Israeli military order 1797 is a major step on the road to empty Area C, which covers 60 percent of the West Bank, of Palestinians.
A Fatah spokesman was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida reiterating that the PLO would remain the sole house for all Palestinians and expressing his confidence that all endeavors aimed to create alternatives were doomed to failure.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, the United Nations Economic and Social Council passed a draft resolution on the situation of and assistance to Palestinian women.
