RAMALLAH, June 7, 2018 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Riyad Malki met on Thursday in Ramallah with his Latvian counterpart, Edgars Rinkevics, and discussed the latest political developments and bilateral relations.

Malki briefed his Latvian guest on the political situation on the ground, especially with regard to the status of Jerusalem in light of the recent US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its relocation of its embassy in Israel to the holy city.

They also discussed ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations, including promotion of economic and trade ties, the possibility of increasing scholarships for Palestinian students seeking to study in Latvia, in addition to the possibility of boosting parliamentarian cooperation between the two countries.

Malki also briefed the Latvian minister on the developments in the Gaza Strip and the difficulties faced by the Palestinian Authority as a result of Israel‘s aggressive military actions against Palestinian people everywhere, especially in the Gaza Strip, and the large number of Palestinians killed and wounded by Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, Edgars stressed that his country‘s positions on all issues related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are fully consistent with international laws. He expressed his opposition to the relocation of the US embassy to Jerusalem and said his country will not follow suit.
