RAMALLAH, June 3, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the killing of a Palestinian man in Hebron by the Israeli forces as well as news about the funeral of the slain medic made headlines in the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.

Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli soldiers shot dead Rami Wahid Sabarneh, 36, a father of three, near al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the Old City of Hebron, the southern occupied West Bank, while he was driving a skid loader as part of working with a contractor to expand the road and rehabilitate infrastructure in Jaber neighborhood.

The dailies said Israeli forces prevented medical staff from approaching Sabarneh, who was pronounced dead later, before they alleged that he was killed because he attempted to ram his skid loader into soldiers.

The dailies also reported that paramedic Razan Ashraf Najjar, 21, who was shot dead by Israeli forces while she was providing first aid to the wounded at the Gaza border fence on Friday, was laid to rest on Saturday in Khan Younes, in southern Gaza Strip, following a funeral procession attended by thousands of angry mourners.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said that the United Nations officials and agencies expressed their outrage over Israeli forces‘ killing of Najjar, while al-Quds said that a number of righteous organizations and institution called for the formation of an international committee to investigate the killing of the medic.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Mahmoud Abbas phoned Najjar’s father and offered condolences.

It said President Abbas on Saturday congratulated his Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of Italy‘s National Day.

A statement by Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in the three papers. He said that the rising US hostility toward Palestinian rights, the last of which was the US veto at the Security Council and unacceptable statements by its officials, “indicate that the existing possibilities are not an option but rather a test of the ability of the unified Arab stand in facing the current and future challenges of this difficult stage.”

The three dailies said that Amnesty International called upon the Israeli authorities to immediately cancel plans to demolish the Palestinian Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar and the forcible eviction of its Bedouin community, describing the Israeli plans as a war crime.

Residents of the village are set to be transferred to a site near the former Jerusalem municipal garbage dump near the town of Abu Dis.

Al-Ayyam said that Israeli warplanes and artillery bombed sites in the Gaza Strip. No injuries were reported, however.

Al-Quds said that Israel plans to build a new Jewish settlement near the Gaza Strip.

US State Department Official denied discussion of downgrading the status of US Consulate General in Jerusalem, as reported in al-Quds.

It said UN envoy for the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, called on Israel to avoid targeting medical staff.
