Newspapers Review: Settlement construction, Gaza situation and Cairo meeting focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, June 1, 2018 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies tackled different subjects on the front page of their Friday issue.

Al-Quds highlighted as its main front page story the construction of thousands of housing units in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The two other dailies also reported on this subject.

Al-Ayyam quoted the Red Cross saying that Gaza is like a sinking ship as the Strip is facing an unprecedented health crisis. This subject was also covered in the other two dailies.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the Palestinian-Jordanian-Egyptian meeting in Cairo, which it said warned of grave consequences as a result of Israeli escalation in the tension on the ground. Al-Quds and al-Ayyam also reported on this.

The three papers marked the 17th anniversary for the death of Faisal Husseini, a leading figure from Jerusalem.

They also reported on the Israeli detentions in the West Bank and clashes with Israelis soldiers in some areas where Palestinians were shot and injured.

The papers also said calls were made to participate in the “Friday from Gaza to Haifa” protests as part of the Great March of Return activities.

They said the United Nations Security Council has postponed a vote on a resolution calling for providing protection for the Palestinian people.
