RAMALLAH, May 29, 2018 (WAFA) – Discharging President Mahmoud Abbas from hospital after an eight-day medical treatment for lung infection dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday.
The dailies reported that Abbas walked out of the hospital “in good health” and that he was scheduled to chair a Fatah Central Committee meeting today.
The killing of a Palestinian by Israeli snipers and the death of another in Gaza also hit the front page headlines.
The dailies reported that a Palestinian was killed by an Israeli tank shell fired at a location to the east of Beit Lahiya town in the northern besieged Gaza Strip.
They added that another Palestinian succumbed to his wounds he sustained during the Great March of Return borderline protests few days ago.
Furthermore, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Israeli forces detained a number of Palestinians during a raid into Amari refugee camp in Ramallah.
Al-Ayyam explained that Israeli forces detained 15 Palestinians and injured 13 others during the raid that triggered confrontations in the refugee camp.
Moreover, al-Quds reported the Civic Coalition to Defend Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem (CCDPRJ) warning Jerusalemite Palestinians against cooperating with land settlement plans conducted by Israeli occupation authorities in Jerusalem.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, passed in the first reading a bill that would strip the Israeli High Court of its jurisdiction to adjudicate petitions lodged by West Bank Palestinians over land confiscation.
They also reported that Israeli authorities decided to prevent the release of the body of Aziz Oweisat, a prisoner from the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukaber who died of a heart attack few days after he was severely beaten by Israeli prison guards.
Al-Quds reported Foreign Ministry slamming the escalation in Israeli war crimes against the Palestinian people as a “new defiance” of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
It also reported Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) Executive Committee Saeb Erekat stating the PLO would remain a home for all Palestinians.
It added that PLO Executive Committee member Tayseer Khaled called for the formation of a new unifying Palestinian National Council.
Al-Ayyam said that Israeli settlers cut off over 100 vineyards in Kafr Malek village, east of Ramallah, while others were suspected in the poisoning of sheep belonging to a Palestinian shepherd in Salem village.
It also reported the UN agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, announcing that a large number of Palestinians injured by Israeli snipers in Gaza would suffer from long-term disabilities.
It also reported Human Rights Watch stating the Israeli banks were profiting from settlements and that their role abets land seizures and human rights abuses.
Besides, head of the Palestinian Football Association Jibril Rjoub was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida calling Argentina to reverse its decision to take part in a football match in Jerusalem.
