RAMALLAH, May 25, 2018 (WAFA) – The death of two Palestinians shot and injured by Israeli forces in Gaza hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Friday.
The dailies reported that two Palestinians succumbed to their wounds they sustained after being shot by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.
Ahmed Qattoush, 23, succumbed to his serious wounds he suffered after being shot by Israeli forces with a live round in the head, east of al-Bureij refugee camp, while Mohannad Abu Tahun, 21, died from his wounds he suffered after being shot by an Israeli soldier with a live round in the head on May 14.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that hundreds of mourners participated in the funeral procession of Odai Abu Khalil in Ein Sinia village, north of Ramallah.
Abu Khalil, 15, reportedly succumbed to his wounds he sustained after being shot and seriously injured by Israeli forces during a protest in al-Bireh city, adjacent to Ramallah.
News Israeli settlement construction plans also dominated the front page headlines in the dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli ‘Defence’ Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced plans to advance the construction of 2,500 new settler units across the West Bank settlements.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudenieh stating in this regard tall Israeli settlement activity is illegal and therefore would be removed as was the case with Israeli settlements in Gaza and Sinai.
Government spokesperson Yousef al-Mahmoud was also reported in al-Hyat al-Jadida stating: “Settlement construction which ]Israeli Premier Benjamin[ Netanyahu boasts about is a war crime.”
Furthermore, the dailies said that a member of Israeli undercover forces was critically injured during a predawn military raid in al-Amari refugee camp in the central West Bank city of Ramallah.
Al-Quds said that Israeli police beefed up their presence in East Jerusalem in anticipated of the second Friday of Ramadan.
Al-Ayyam reported that a total of 10 Palestinians were detained during multiple overnight military raids across the West Bank and three others were injured during confrontations with Israeli forces.
It added that a kite flown by Palestinian protestors set fire to bushes near Malaka military site, east of Gaza.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israel’s supreme court ruled in favor of demolishing the Palestinian community of Khan al-Ahmar, on the outskirts of East Jerusalem.
Abu Rudeineh was also reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida denouncing the Israeli court’s ruling to demolish and uproot Khan al-Ahmar community as “collective displacement” and “ethnic cleansing”.
According to al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida, the US weights United Nations (UN) funding cuts after Palestinians join UN agencies.
Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that Palestine submitted the referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over Israeli settlement construction to ensure the protection of the Palestinian people against Israeli occupation crimes.
They also reported State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Andreas Michaelis affirming that Germany would not relocate its embassy to Jerusalem.
Al-Quds said that student activists confronted US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley during a speech at the University of Houston, Texas, shouting: “the blood is on your hands!” and “Free Palestine”.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, Prince William, will visit Israel and the occupied Palestinians territories next month.
Al-Ayyam spotlighted the Higher National Commission for the Great March of Return calling on Palestinians to partake in today’s two-hour protests.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Director of the Portuguese National Theater Dona Maria cancelled his participation in the Israel Festival in Jerusalem, scheduled for June.
