NEW YORK, May 20, 2018 (WAFA) – The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled on Monday to discuss a draft resolution that calls for providing international protection for the Palestinian people.
Called for by Kuwait’s permanent representative at the UN in New York, Ambassador Mansour Al Otaibi, the resolution will aim to provide international protection to civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories, including in the Gaza Strip, according to official Kuwaiti news agency KUNA.
Al Otaibi said negotiations on the draft resolution would be scheduled on the level of experts next Monday. He added that the draft resolution will call for providing international protection to the people of the occupied Palestinian territories in addition to the lifting of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip.
The draft resolution will also encourage further UN efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region and reinforcing respect for international and humanitarian laws, he said.
The resolution voices alarm to the exacerbating humanitarian crisis in Gaza and stresses the urgency for a sustainable solution to the crisis in line with international humanitarian law.
