Newspaper Review: Three Palestinians’ death of wounds focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, May 20, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the three Palestinians who died of wounds they sustained last Monday in the Gaza Strip hit the front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that that Moin al-Sai, 58, Mohammad Mazen Elayyan, 20, and Ahmad Abu Samra, 21, on Saturday succumbed to their wounds sustained from Israeli army gunfire during the Great March of Return protests on Monday at the Gaza border with Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah’s joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Yousuf Al-Othaimeen, Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), at the end of the OIC extraordinary summit held in Istanbul.

It quoted Hamdallah as saying that the Palestinian leadership has decided to refer Israel’s settlement activities and all its crimes against the Palestinian people to the International Criminal Court early next week, stressing that Jerusalem was and will always remain the eternal capital of the State of Palestine.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that US President Donald Trump intends to launch his “deal of the century” plan after the holy month of Ramadan.

Reporting on the recent demonstration in Haifa, al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds said that the follow-up committee organized a protest in support of those who were detained during the demonstration.

According to al-Quds, Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, blamed Israeli police for using excessive violence to disperse peaceful protesters who were demonstrating against the recent Israeli massacre in Gaza.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that demonstrations took place in Italy and Netherlands in solidarity with Palestine and in support of Jerusalem.
