RAMALLAH, May 16, 2018 (WAFA) – Hanan Ashrawi, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said on Wednesday that “the Guatemalan government has positioned itself alongside Israel and its war crimes, defying international law and supporting the military occupation and the illegal annexation of Jerusalem by relocating its embassy to occupied Jerusalem following Israel‘s brutal murder of 61 Palestinian unarmed demonstrators in Gaza this week.”

She said in reaction to the opening of the Guatemalan embassy in Jerusalem, “Clearly, the Guatemalan government has been emboldened by the US administration‘s irresponsible and provocative policies. Such a move will enable Israel to persist in the total annexation and isolation of Palestinian Jerusalem.”

Ashrawi urged the international community to step in immediately before the ramifications and consequences cannot be contained and to rescue the chances of peace and stability before it is too late.
