RAMALLAH, May 16, 2018 (WAFA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Wednesday summoned its ambassadors in Romania, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Austria for consultations after ambassadors from these countries have participated in an event organized by the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Sunday to celebrate moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and declaring Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
The Foreign Ministry considered in a statement the participation of these countries in the event as “a gross violation of international law and several United Nations resolutions that confirmed that Jerusalem is occupied territory since 1967 and forbid countries from moving their embassies to this city.”
It said the summon was for consultation with the ambassadors to these countries regarding their positions and their commitment to the position of the European Union, which, it said, “we highly appreciate the commitment of most of its member states to international law and UN resolutions related to the Palestinian cause.”
President Abbas had also recalled on Tuesday Palestine’s ambassador to Washington, Husam Zomlot.
