Protests reported in West Bank

RAMALLAH, May 14, 2018 (WAFA) – Palestinians protesting the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem and marking Nakba (catastrophe) 70th anniversary clashed on Monday with Israeli soldiers at various contact points in the West Bank.

Fierce clashes were reported at Qalandia checkpoint between Jerusalem and Ramallah following a massive rally at Ramallah.

Hundreds of people marched from Ramallah to Qalandia where Israeli soldiers stationed at the checkpoint showered them with tear gas and fired rubber bullets at them.

Palestinians responded by throwing rocks and empty bottles at the soldiers.

Medical sources said two people were treated for injuries from rubber bullets and many from tear gas.

Similar confrontations occurred in Bethlehem at its northern border and in Hebron.

Reports said a number of people suffered from tear gas inhalation and were treated at the scene.
