RAMALLAH, May 6, 2018 (WAFA) – News about the mysterious explosion in Gaza that left six Palestinians dead and injured three others hit the front pages of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that six Palestinians were killed in a mysterious explosion in the area of al-Zawayda in the Gaza Strip, while three others were injured and moved to hospital.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, accused Israel of the explosion.
The three dailies said that the UN Security Council has rejected the US request to condemn remarks made by President Mahmoud Abbas about Jews.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas talked to King Abdulla II of Jordan through a phone conversation, where they spoke about the success of the Palestinian National Council meeting.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported a statement by Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). He said the continuing campaign in Israel and the United States against President Abbas accusing him of anti-Semitism is an attempt to make him “irrelevant” in a manner similar to the campaign against former President Yasser Arafat before his death.
Al-Ayyam said Nabil Shaath, advisor to President Abbas for external affairs and international relations, stressed that Abbas’ visit to the three Latin American countries – Chile, Cuba and Venezuela – aims to garner more political support for the Palestinian issue.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Ahmad Majdalani, said that the PLO Executive Committee will start meetings on Sunday to look into restructuring the departments of the PLO and the relationship with the government.
The paper said that at least six Palestinians, were shot and injured, including one seriously, on Saturday by Israeli forces’ live fire to the east of al-Maghazi refugee camp, in central Gaza, said medical sources.
Al-Ayyam reported that Israeli settlers installed caravans on Saturday in al-Farsiya area in the northern Jordan Valley region in the occupied West Bank.
Al-Quds said Israeli forces raided the village of Kafr Qaddum, east of the city of Qalqilya, the occupied West Bank.
