RAMALLAH, April 29, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas Sunday congratulated the President of the Republic of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa on the occasion of Freedom Day.
He expressed in an official correspondence his sincere appreciation of the friendship and mutual respect that bonds Palestine and South Africa together. He affirmed that such sentiments shall remain a priority to be nourished and improved to serve the two nations.
Abbas praised the supportive South African position in favor of Palestinians’ rights to freedom, sovereignty, and statehood with East Jerusalem as Palestine’s capital to ensure a just peace desired by the people of the region.
Freedom Day is celebrated on April 27th each year and celebrates freedom and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994.
