Palestinian ordered to tear down garage he built for his car

JERUSALEM, April 28, 2018 (WAFA) – A Palestinian resident of Silwan, an East Jerusalem Arab neighborhood, started on Saturday at orders from the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem to tear down a garage he had built at his home for his car, according to Wadi Hilweh Information Center.

Iyad Ramadan, owner of the garage, said he was ordered three months ago to remove the garage because it was built without a permit.

He said he tried to postpone the demolition until he gets the paper work done and a permit but without success.

Staff from the Israeli municipality and police informed Ramadan few days ago that he has until Sunday to demolish the garage, otherwise the municipality will demolish it at exorbitant costs plus $15,000 fine.

Ramadan said he built the garage because he does not have parking place near his house.

The municipality has also began issuing parking tickets to Palestinians who park their cars on the street outside their homes, as they have been doing for decades, claiming they obstruct traffic.

Residents complain that the municipality does not build parking spots for them when it rehabilitates the neighborhood streets as it does when building homes for Jewish settlers.
