Arab League welcomes resolution condemning Israel for violations in Gaza

CAIRO, April 6, 2018 (WAFA) - The League of Arab States Thursday welcomed a resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which condemned Israel’s violations against unarmed protesters in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

In a press statement, the Arab League stressed the importance of such decisions, which included condemning the deliberate killing of civilian demonstrators during the Great March of Return in the Gaza Strip.

The European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted the draft resolution that condemns the targeting of civilian demonstrators participating in the protests and calls for an independent and transparent investigation into the suppression of non-violent protests.

The resolution was passed by a majority of 524 votes and stressed Palestinians‘ right to peaceful protest, called for utmost restraint and underlined that priority must be to avoid any further escalation of violence and loss of life.

The European Parliament also called for an immediate and unconditional end to the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
