RAMALLAH, April 3, 2018 (WAFA) – The death of a Palestinian man from his injuries three days after he was shot by Israeli snipers as he participated in the Great March of Return at the Gaza border with Israel dominated the front page headlines in the Palestinian dailies on Tuesday.
The papers said Fares al-Raqab, 29, succumbed to wounds he sustained after he was shot on Friday. He was laid to his rest in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Younis in the south of the Gaza Strip.
Sixteen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces along Gaza border on that day and over 1400 injured.
The dailies added that dozens of Palestinians were injured by Israeli troops in the West Bank and besieged Gaza Strip in confrontations on Monday.
The dailies reported Finance Minister Shukri Bishara announcing that the US Supreme Court has nixed a $655 million jury award against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian Authority (PA) in damages to Americans injured in six attacks in Jerusalem from 2002 to 2004.
Al-Quds also reported Bishara hailing the US Supreme Court ruling as a “resounding victory” and Palestine’s chief representative Husam Zomlot stating that it constituted a “triumph of the law over politics.”
Spotlighting rising tensions at East Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, al-Quds said a total of 386 Israeli Jewish fanatics forced their way into the holy site. According to al-Ayyam, they totaled 246.
The dailies added that US ambassador to Israel David Friedman took part in Jewish religious rituals at al-Buraq Wall, referred to by Jews as the Western Wall.
According to al-Ayyam, settlers also raided Sebastia archeological site, northwest of Nablus, and another location to the south of Jenin, where they performed religious rituals.
Highlighting detention raids, al-Quds said that Israeli forces conducted multiple detention raids, mainly in East Jerusalem, while al-Ayyam said that forces detained three Palestinians to the east of Khan Younis.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Israeli troops handed the family of Abdul-Rahman Bani-Fadel a notice to demolish his home in Aqraba town, south of Nablus.
Bani-Fadel, 28, a father of two, was shot dead by Israeli police after he allegedly stabbed and killed an Israeli in the Old City of Jerusalem on March 18.
According to al-Quds, Israeli forces expelled a Palestinian woman from her family home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Issawiya and banned her from entering Jerusalem. The woman, Ibtisam Obeid, a West Bank resident, has been living in Issawiya since she got married 16 years ago and has three children. However, in spite of applying for family unification that would allow her to live in Jerusalem, she was forced to leave the city and live away from her husband and three sons.
Al-Quds reported that a total of 400 Palestinians from Syria are stranded in Greece, where they face uncertain fate.
It also reported that Qatar has provided $50 million in support of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.
The dailies said that President Mahmoud Abbas has received an invitation to attend the upcoming Arab summit in Riyadh.
Regarding the Palestine National Council’s (PNC) session, scheduled on April 30, member of the PLO Executive Committee Ahmad Majdalani was reported in al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida announcing that the preparatory committee would meet tomorrow.
Al-Ayyam added in this regard that Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have called for postponing the PNC session.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating that the government would not go to the Gaza Strip unless it assumes its powers and functions once and for all.
