Newspapers Review: Massacre on Gaza border focus of dailies

RAMALLAH, March 31, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli army massacre of Palestinian civilians at the Gaza border on Friday that left 15 (some papers said 16) Palestinians dead and hundreds more injured was as expected the highlight of the Saturday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The main front page headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida printed in red said: “The blood of Palestine confirms: liquidation projects will not pass.”

Al-Ayyam main front page headline, also appeared on red background, said: “16 martyrs and hundreds of wounded in the first day of the Grand March of Return.”

Al-Quds said: “16 martyrs, 1500 wounded in a massacre committed by the Israeli army on the Gaza border.”

The three papers gave extensive coverage with photos of the developments that led to the bloody day in Gaza and highlighted President Mahmoud Abbas holding Israel responsible for the massacre while calling for a day of mourning and for international protection for the Palestinian people under Israeli occupation.

They said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki warned the United States against obstructing a decision in the United Nations condemning the Israeli massacre.

They quoted Palestine’s ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, saying calls were made for international protection for the Palestinian people.

The papers also published Arab condemnation of the Israeli killing and wounding of Palestinians.

In addition to this subject, the papers reported on the protests that raged in the West Bank on Friday marking Land Day as well as the annual Land Day march and rally by Palestinians inside Israel, which took place in the Galilee.

Al-Quds said Washington denied that it seeks to replace President Abbas.
