RAMALLAH, January 28, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech and meeting with Arab ambassadors at the African Union’s summit in Addis Ababa were the highlight in the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said Abbas met with the Arab ambassadors in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and is expected to deliver an important speech at the African Union’s summit.
Al-Quds said Abbas told Israeli left-wing Meretz party leader Zehava Galon that the Oslo Accords are dead and that the US is no longer the peace mediator between Israelis and Palestinians.
In response to the Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who said that Palestinian traders would want to get rid of Abbas, Samir Zraiq, chairman of the Palestinian Federation of Businessmen Associations and Palestinian Businessmen Union, said that Palestinian businessmen’s support for Abbas is clear and the private sector demands ending the Israeli occupation.
US President Donald Trump threatened to cut off and cease humanitarian aid to Palestinians, as reported in al-Quds.
Former US ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro warned Israel of “burning bridges” with the Democratic Party in the US, saying the US support to Israel could become an issue in the future, according to a-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds.
Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour said that an international conference will be held to discuss the recent financial situation of UNRWA as a result of the US cuts, as reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavu?o?lu said Turkey will continue its support for the Palestinian cause.
