Erekat says Central Council’s decisions based on international law

RAMALLAH, January 17, 2018 (WAFA) – Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat Wednesday said the decisions adopted by the Central Council in its 28th session are based on international law.

Erekat received the Russian envoy to the peace process Sergei Przhnyim, the European Envoy for the peace process Fernando Gentilini, and the Swedish envoy to the peace process Per Orneus.

He affirmed that there is no longer an Israeli peace partner as the Israeli government chose the path of settlement construction and expansion, blockade, closures, home demolitions, ethnic cleansing, field assassinations and arrests. He said all these practices lead to the destruction of the two-state solution.

Erekat reiterated that the US’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has disqualified the US as mediator in the peace process, because of the latter’s blatant bias in favor of the Israeli occupation.

He called on the members of the International Quartet (Russia, EU and UN) to compel the US administration to adhere to the principles of international law, the Roadmap and the Arab Peace Initiative, adding that it would lead to resolving all final status issues, foremost of which is the issue of refugees and political prisoners in accordance with the relevant resolutions.
